sagan-indiana:

I was platinum for the last few years, and when I say platinum I really mean it*. So even though I’m grey now my hair is still a little sad, especially since I’m trying to grow it. There is a lot of bad shit on store bought treatments (while silicone isn’t always bad dimethicone/simethicone really builds up on your hair and isn’t great) and it’s also quite hard to navigate through which brands are truly ethical. Mostly, I just want the best, easiest, cutest hair treatments.
So here are some recipes for my favourite natural conditioners and conditioning treatments!

COCONUT OIL TREATMENT
I swear by this stuff. Seriously, ask me about it, I will go on about it for fucking ages. So not only does it smell AMAZING but it actually penetrates deep inside your…. hair, because it’s a fatty acid. Just scoop some out of the jar and apply to damp hair, easy! Last year there were studies done to actually determine how deep it gets in there, they did something with radioactively labeled coconut oil, anyway your hair can absorb approx. 15% of its weight in coconut oil an hour and if you leave it is as a proper treatment overnight, as I do, you’re looking at 25% osmosis of your hairs weight! This is by far the treatment I most recommend. It minimizes protein loss in your hair both damaged and undamaged! Also you can use it as moisturizer and also as lube during sex (though as FuckYourselfFit pointed out don’t use it as lube with latex condoms. I forget condoms are a thing) And as a make up remover and it tastes nice

COCONUT OIL LEAVE IN SERUM
Scoop out the tiniest amount, like pea-sized, and rub through the ends of dry hair and that’s it! Your hair will smell gorgeous and be nice and replenished! Though this is a great leave in serum a pre-wash coconut oil treatment works best, always. The reason it works best pre-wash is because it is hydrophobic ie: it repulses water. This is significant because when applied before a wash it doesn’t allow water to penetrate the strands of hair therefore the the cuticle doesn’t rise and break.

HONEY AND CONDITIONER!
Exactly what it sounds like. Rub some honey, a drop about the size of a 10c coin, into your normal conditioner. Let it sit in your hair for a while, 10-30 minutes and rinse as usual. It really isn’t hard to rinse out when it’s not applied on its own. If you want to you can mix apple cider vinegar in because it works as a great conditioner! Honey is s great conditioner because it is humectant which means it retains moisture! I need to mention that honey naturally lightens your hair, kind of like lemon juice, so maybe don’t use it if you’re not a fair haired maiden or in for a mild change. So mild though.

HONEY AND COCONUT OIL TREATMENT
Just mix a lil honey in with about a tablespoon of coconut oil (I really can’t get enough of it) and melt them together in the microwave. DON’T PUT IT IN YOUR HAIR WHEN IT’S HOT! Luke warm is great but not hot. Massage it into your hair and leave in as long as you would usually leave a treatment in. I usually like to do it overnight but I am a lady of leisure (see: watching X-Files all day). Then just rinse and shampoo as usual!

HONEY AND TEA SHAMPOO
Get about a cup liquid castile soap (olive oil based soap), a mug of tea, I prefer green tea but you can use some fancy herbal shit, tablespoon of coconut oil (my Lord I love it) and a teaspoon of honey. And just use it like you use shampoo!

VINEGAR AND DELICIOUS CONDITIONER
I know, vinegar is gross right? It’s great for your hair because it removes build up from proteins and products you use (seriously, keratine build up is a thing and your hair can get brittle). You’ll want half a cup of the stuff and you could just use a 2 cups of water but I prefer to use chai tea, or any nice herbal tea just for the aroma! I do don’t like the smell of apple cider vinegar very much. On the other hand I fucking love rose tea. Anyway, mix it all in together and chuck it in your hair and rise after a few minutes. Also, if you have dogs you should have apple cider vinegar in the house anyway, but maybe I’ll do a post on that.
You can use this exact recipe for skin toner too!
